I don't know about you, but sometimes I forget that I can choose to make changes in my life, I don't have to wait for something to happen that forces me into a change of direction. I don't need to continue doing what I habitually do. You know what they say.....if you always do what you have always done, you always get what you have always got. So why not stop and look at your life and see what you would like to change.
I am a clinical hypnotherapist and NLP practitioner who is passionate about what I do. I believe wholeheartedly that nowadays we live life at such a fast pace that, we do not spend enough time taking care of our minds or bodies. This is where I believe hypnotherapy and NLP can be invaluable, whether it be helping you to feel more in control of your feelings and emotions or assisting you to reach your full potential in your sport. Whatever you want to change why not explore the possibilities?
Change can be an action, not just a reaction.

Have you ever driven from one place to another, arrived safely but not fully remembered the journey? You know that feeling when you awake in the morning and haven’t got to get up? You’re awake but your eyes are closed, you could answer if someone spoke to you but you’d really rather not, as you are quite comfortable where you are. If the answer to either of the above is yes then you have experienced a form of natural trance state. Hypnotherapy uses this state of altered awareness allowing you to be free to focus on changes you want to make in your life, without any distraction and enabling you to concentrate on ways to achieve these changes most effectively. It’s a bit like updating your internal computer, and installing the programmes that are most appropriate for your life at this time.

NLP - Neuro Linguistic Programming - is a tool used to understand how humans function. It is often called the 'user manual' for the body, brain and mind. Others call it an 'attitude and methodology'.
NLP has a number of pre-suppositions, here are just a couple;

The majority of us try to take some time out of our busy lives to look after ourselves in some way or other. However, it's usually something physical, having our hair cut, visiting our G.P., going for a massage, seeing an osteopath. You notice that there is nothing about our minds or emotions. It is often thought of as a waste of time to sit and take stock of our lives and see if there is anything we want to change or see how close we are to achieving the goals - if we've set any that is! After all our mind does that automatically.... doesn’t it? Remember, change can be an action not just a reaction. So why not take some time to audit your life and take care of your mind and emotions?. Remember, change can be an action not just a reaction. So why not take some time to audit your life and take care of your mind and emotions?

Believe it or not some stress is good for you, as it keeps you motivated and helps you achieve your goals and carry out your daily tasks. However when stress becomes too much it can leave you feeling overwhelmed and exhausted, with many worries and anxieties. You may feel you just cannot cope. This would be the time to use hypnotherapy to help you relax. Relaxation is the key to relieving and reducing excess stress and hypnotherapy may aid you to do this. My aim would be to find the best way to help you relax and teach you some self hypnosis techniques that you can continue to use at home.
So many people today suffer from chronic pain or discomfort either connected to an illness, a previous injury or trauma. Pain is a warning message from the body to the mind that there is a problem that needs to be addressed This message can be very useful, however occasionally there is a miscommunication and the message continues after the problem has been dealt with . Chronic pain can also be connected to a chronic condition that cannot be addressed physically Hypnotherapy has been used by some people to manage the pain and keep it at an acceptable level Why not give it a go?.
A large proportion of the problems we experience in our lives have low self esteem as one of the main symptoms and more often than not loss of confidence goes along side. In fact we have not 'lost' our confidence at all, it is still there! All that has happened is we believe that we have lost it; someone or something may have led us to feel we are less worthy than others in some way. We can even persuade ourselves by negative thoughts that we deserve less. With hypnotherapy and NLP we can explore why we have set up these negative and limiting beliefs and find new positive ones that are more appropriate to the life we want to lead
I cannot stress enough how I believe relaxation is one of the key skills we have that is so underutilised. Most of us think it is a luxury. Lily Tomlin said ‘the time to relax is when you don’t have time’ and I agree with her. What do you think? We live life at such a hectic pace, with so many commitments to juggle: family, job, finances, relationship, sport to name but a few. However where in the whole picture of things is the commitment to you? You may protest that you ‘work out in the gym and that is your time’ You may disagree because ‘you fall asleep on the train home from work and that is relaxing’. I will agree that both these examples are forms of relaxation; your mind may be relaxing when you work out in the gym, but what about your body? Your body may be relaxing while you sleep on the train, but how can your mind be relaxing when you are listening out for your station? Your mind and your body have a memory of relaxation, it is simply you that needs reminding to take time to relax both your body and your mind at the same time. A few minutes a day can be so beneficial. Let me remind you how
I expect you have heard the old adage ‘Sport is 20% physical 80% mental’ (sometimes literally!) Well whether you choose to use your sport for fitness, relaxation, challenging yourself or some other personal reason, I suspect, if you are reading this section, you are highly committed to it. Committed to training, committed to having the correct equipment or clothes, commited to putting time into it, but how committed are you to putting your all into it? If you are concentrating mainly on the 20% physical part of your sport you are missing out. Using techniques for visualisation, improving focus and motivation are often employed by a lot of athletes. However there is so much more you can do to train your mind to help you improve at your sport. By using techniques to control and increase energy, by quietening that little negative voice that makes you doubt your ability, and by understanding how limiting beliefs can hold you back. These are just a few things you can do to support your physical training. Only by using all the tools you have, will you be able you to reach your full potential. Interested in finding out more? There are many other ways that hypnotherapy and NLP may be used to encourage you to make the changes you want in your life. However one word of caution hypnotherapy is not a magic wand that can solve all your problems. You have to WANT to make any change and it has to be YOUR aim or goal not someone else’s. Saying that it is such a good feeling; setting yourself a goal, achieving it and at the same time improving your life.
